Marzena Hans

Marzena Hans works on documentary photography, projects related to social inequality and the representation of women in the current world. She also does street photography and reportage commercial, wedding and session photography. In 2021, she was the winner of the Female in Focus competition, organized by the British Journal of Photography.

Q&A

1. How did your adventure in photography/film begin?
   I started photography while I was still in high school and for college I also chose such a direction, so I've been involved with photography almost since I can remember. At a young age I was looking for ways of my own expression, opportunities to create and create, and photography seemed like a good way to do that.
   
   
2. How would you describe your style?
   Attentive with a touch of humor. What I look for the most when doing reportage are photos that make the viewer pause, smile, and surprise. On the other hand, in my documentary work I focus mainly on working with women, I look for depth but simplicity. The world. Situations, people, colors, paintings, films, exhibitions, train travel, fragrant grass, shadows, shapes, space, foodee. I try to look for inspiration in all my surroundings.
   
   
   
   
3. What is your dream session or project?
   One during which I discover my new possibilities, one that I don't come up with in advance, because it's only during the creation process that it turns out that this is what I've been waiting for.

4. What would you advise aspiring photographers?
   Expand knowledge and horizons, read a lot, listen, watch. And not necessarily in the field of photography, but in various fields, soak up the world, because we never know what will inspire us.
   

5. What is included in your equipment bag? And Which item is the most important?
   A 3x sony body and lenses from 14mm to 135mm. However, I most often work with 24 and 35 focal lengths during reportage, and 45mm, 50mm on shoots. I try not to let my equipment overwhelm me, I have a lot of lenses packed just in case, but in a carry-on bag with me 3-4 of the most used ones, and those that are light, small and fast.

6. What kind of bag do you use?
